A pleasant 5 minute walk from the Park and you'll be entering the northernmost town in England. The town of Berwick is steeped in history, from its three great bridges to the swan-filled harbour.
Holy Island - 9 miles
'Turn the pages' of the Lindisfarne Gospels on computer in the Heritage Centre. Go puffin and seal spotting around the Farne Islands on a boat trip from either Amble or Seahouses. You can also escape to the coastal retreats of Beadnell, Alnmouth and Druridge Bay. Don't leave without sampling a fresh crab sandwich, but remember that Holy Island is cut off by the tide twice a day.
